PUBG Mobile India Avatar Battlegrounds Pre-Registrations Surpass 20 Million, Still No Release Date

Battlegrounds Mobile India, the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, passed 20 million pre-registrations in the country in just over two weeks. The game was pre-registered for Android users on May 18 after it was announced early last month. Battlegrounds Mobile India is the Indian avatar for PUBG Mobile which was banned in the country last September along with 117 other apps. The game is basically the same as PUBG Mobile but with a few tweaks made for the Indian audience.

Krafton, the South Korean developer, said in a statement that Battlegrounds Mobile India has passed 20 million pre-registrations in India. The game was announced in the first week of May, and then on May 18, pre-registrations began for Android users through the Google play store. On day one, the developer says it received 7.6 million pre-registrations. Today, just over two weeks later, Battlegrounds Mobile India has raked in over 12.4 million more.

Pre-registrations bring India-specific rewards that can be claimed at the official launch of the game. These include a Recognition Outfit, Recognition Mask, in-game currency and more. Those who have pre-registered for Battlegrounds Mobile India will see the game downloaded automatically upon launch, if they have enabled the feature in Google Play.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our Indian fans for their overwhelming response to the IP Battlegrounds first developed by me and my team in 2017. The IP Battlegrounds has received the love and praise of gamers around the world entire, and Krafton will continue to rely on IP. This effort is about bringing incredible content to Battlegrounds Mobile India and providing an unparalleled battle royale experience for our players, ”said CH Kim, CEO of Krafton.

Fans who were waiting for a release date will have to keep waiting as the developer has yet to share one. The press release also states that the release date for Battlegrounds Mobile India will be shared at a later date. Speculation suggests the game will be playable on June 18 in the country.

PUBG Mobile was banned in India in September 2020 due to its connection with Chinese company Tencent. After the ban, ownership of the game passed to Krafton who tried to revive the game in the country. After several months, he was able to do so in the form of Battlegrounds Mobile India.
