Today’s date, YouTube has become one of the important parts of people’s lives and especially for children. Around 80% of US children populations are attracted to this online popular platform. Most children around six to twelve years of age are found to be actively online on YouTube. In the year 2015 Google introduced an application namely the “YouTube Kids” only for children. This application was designed in such a way that it showed suitable contents only for children. Recently action has been taken to review contents which are directly or indirectly causing harm to children viewers. It has been noted that there is a good number of offensive contents on YouTube which are not suitable for children.
A group that deals with the children privacy are now appealing that this only platform is collection all wrong data for children viewers. The information’s are illegal and proper action should be taken against the platform. All they wish that this online platform changes its way of handling the content for children and pay the fine which would be up to “tens of billions” of dollars for mishandling with the content and profiting out of all these little viewers.
Now Google has taken the big responsibility to be the Coppa-compliant which will ensure that the children will watch programs which will be quite safe for them to watch. Now Google has all the responsibility to become one of the most transparent online platforms and create new policies only to protect the privacy of the children. Google is now expected to work together with the advocates and takes required advice from parents regarding the parental control for the safety of the children. Parents should get the chance to select the best for their child from the YouTube platform that indirectly will help them to control privacy-related issues themselves for their children.
A YouTube spokesperson said: “While we haven’t received the complaint, protecting kids and families has always been a top priority for us. We will read the complaint thoroughly and evaluate if there are things we can do to improve. Because YouTube is not for children, we’ve invested significantly in the creation of the YouTube Kids app to offer an alternative specifically designed for children.”
