Xiaomi, A Chinese smartphone manufacturer has come up with an idea of working on a new smartphone with a new technologically advanced periscope lens. MyDrivers, a Chinese publication cites that the company’s recent application with State Intellectual Property Office of China with the title ‘Camera Components and Electronic Devices’, appeared to be working on a device with a periscope camera with a patent application from China and has also tipped the development of a periscope lens in the Xiaomi Smartphone.
Also, historically, this type of camera design was used before as well to offer optical zoom capabilities without even increasing the thickness of the camera and lens modules with utmost clarity.
Dated on December 20, 2018, the patent carries an application number CN201822150093.2 along with it but, unfortunately, is unknown in which of its upcoming smartphones will Xiaomi use this new technology. Being a premium feature, the users can at least expect it to be used by a high-end smartphone such as the brand name Mi Mix 4.
Rumors even speculate that an upcoming smartphone from the company might use a 64-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GW1 sensor as well. However, the patent still remains unsure whether to develop it or update it to the smartphones in the future.
The already existing Huawei P30 Pro and Zoom, being launched in India have already used a periscope lens before to enhance the photography experience.
While the Huawei P30 Pro was launched in India in April priced at Rs. 71,990 for its lone 8GB RAM/ 256GB storage variant, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom was launched in May priced at Rs. 39,990 for base 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant, and similarly, its 8GB RAM/ 256GB storage variant was priced at Rs. 49,990.
