Sony now got a patent for a new PlayStation controller from the World Intellectual Property Organisation(WIPO). The new design of the controller has got two extra buttons on the rear side of the controller. There is one major change in the design – The omission of the PS button. The new design is similar to the current DualShock 4 controller but has some buttons in addition to it on both the rear and front sides. The PS button that was on the front side was removed. This new design was first reported by the news portal Pocket-Lint.com.The new model of the PlayStation controller has the same outlay for face buttons, direction pad, and analog sticks.
The rear side of the controller is a replica of the DualShock 4 controller except for the two configurable buttons. These two buttons can have any function as the user may choose to have. According to Engadget, these buttons are similar to the new attachments for the DualShock 4 controller that Sony is releasing on January 23, 2020.
Polygon reported that “the two buttons are placed directly under the analog stick and they can be activated by triggers in the proposed designs. The position of these two buttons is not fixed and may be moved to other locations.”
The new PlayStation, PS 5 is expected to launch in 2020, and have a Type-C USB port. The latest design also indicates that there could be a USB Micro-B charger, which would allow us to use it with the PlayStation 4.
This controller is not sure to launch with the same specifications and design. There is a possibility that there could be a change in the design. We are not sure of the launch date but, as they got the patent on December 26, it is soon expected to come into the market.
