Sony, to keep up its promise to provide Android 10 to its Xperia devices, the company released Android 10 builds for the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 earlier in December. And now, the company is rolling out Android 10 updates for four more devices in early 2020.
According to recent reports, Sony is rolling out its Android 10 update (v. 52.1.A.0.532) to the Sony Xperia XZ3, XZ2, Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, and Xperia XZ2 Premium carrying some of the new features introduced in Android 10.
The update is currently rolling out in the Central and Northern Europe, Russia, the Baltics, and unbranded US phones. The other regions may soon join them.
The catalog of features brought by Android 10 includes an improved share menu, a system-wide dark mode, and more granular location permissions.
A tipster told that Sony had not updated its stock launcher for the devices yet, which means the enhanced gesture navigation is still missing in the XZ smartphones. A subsequent update is expected to address this.
Even after the update, users will not be able to access features. The gesture-based navigation and the new recent apps or multitasking window, and a light Google Search bar in dark mode.
Users have reported that they are unable to use the recent apps or multitasking window. And still, it is the same as that on Android Pie.
Some more features of Android 10 introduced in Digital Wellbeing, are now available in the new update. The size of the update is around 730 MB. It is reportedly rolling out to both single and dual SIM variants of the aforementioned devices in Europe, a few regions in Asia, and single SIM devices in the US.
As of now, there is no information from the company on a broader rollout. And when Sony is going to release the remaining features for the devices.
Users can check out for the OTA update on their system updates. Alternatively, users can also download the update from Sony’s desktop application Xperia Companion.
