Samsung has brought a new set of software updates for its first-generation watches Samsung Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active. The Galaxy Watch got introduced in August 2018 and Galaxy Watch Active in February 2019. Still, these two watches are among the busiest wearables for their software updates.
Samsung released a Galaxy watch Active 2 in September 2019 with the updated software version. The software was then introduced in the Galaxy Watch Active LTE variant in the recent updates.
This update came after a month after introducing the OTA in the WiFi-only models. At the time, Samsung is also developing an update for its other smartwatch models. The new update has the software version R800XXU1DSL1 and comes with One UI 1.5. The update size is around 117 MB, which is large for smart-watch standards.
The Galaxy Watch One UI 1.5 update in other regions comes with a different software version, R805FXXU1FSL4/R815FXXU1FSL4, but it includes the same changes.
Changes in the latest update for Galaxy Watch:
- Bixby – New Bixby helps you to get your tasks done more easily, like; start an exercise with specific goals or ask the time difference between your city and the one you want to know or the city you are traveling.
- Watch faces: Additional Watch Face Complications are added like; Begin Workout, Breathing, and others.
- A new watch face ‘My Style,’ which suggests a variety of watch faces that suits our outfit by taking photos of clothing.
- An indicator feature in watch face to show the background running apps such as the timer, workout tracking. And, clicking on the indicator will take you to the app
- They have added additional emoticons to provide a variety of skin tones.
- Improved User Interaction for the features like- easier icon order customization in the quick panel, Always keep the Display screen ON will make it easy to read while on charging or in battery saving mode; more convenient Timer and Stop Watch app; and more intuitive sleep mode indication.
- Samsung Health improvements: Improved Lap time tracking for cycling and running activities, new Daily Activity feature that shows user’s daily activity like Workout, Movement, and Hourly Activity; Data sync via NFC with Technogym workout equipment; Added new auto-tracking for ‘Swimming’; and additional alert for low heart rate.

Changes in the latest update for Active:
Now coming to the Galaxy Watch Active, it gets the new software update version R500XXU1DSL1. We don’t have information about the size of the update. The complete changelog is below:
- Touch bezel added – Allows the user to mimic the experience of the rotary bezel in digital for easier navigation and control of the watch.
- Watch faces: Added additional Watch Face Complications such as Begin Workout, Breathing, and others.
- A new watch face ‘My Style,’ which suggests a variety of watch faces that suits our outfit by taking photos of clothing.
- An indicator feature in watch face to show the background running apps such as the timer, workout tracking. And clicking on the indicator will take you back to the app.
- They have added additional emoticons to provide a variety of skin tones.
- Improved User Interaction for the features like easier icon order customization in the quick panel, Always keep the Display screen ON will make it easy to read while on charging or in battery saving mode.
- Samsung Health improvement: Improved Lap time tracking for cycling and running activities; and Data sync via NFC with Technogym workout equipment

Samsung released both the updates via OTA. The latest update may take a while to reach all the devices around the world. Make sure to get the OTA update when it is available in your area.
