Samsung‘s 2017 flagship mobile phone models Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ may not get the Android 10 update. But the company is continuing to release the regular Android security updates. Now, the company is releasing the January 2020 security updates to both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ devices. In a few European countries, the update is already available, including Poland, France, the Netherlands, and Hungary.
The January security update for the S8 and S8+ variants sports the firmware version G950*XXS6DTA1. And the update comes with only the latest security patch, i.e., of January 2020. The January patch brings fixes for some critical vulnerabilities in Android OS. These fixes come along with fixes for 17 bugs found to affect only Samsung’s software. These bugs include one that could allow a brute force attack on the lock screen password and allows unauthorized access to the device.
If you are living in a country where the January 2020 update for the S8 and S8+ has been released, you should get the update patch notification once it is available for your mobile phone. Else you can check it manually by navigating to Settings > Software update > Download and Install option in the menu of your mobile phone.
