E-commerce giant Amazon has expanded the methods of payment on its global marketplace. This was done by adding Amazon PayCode, which is a partnership with Western Union that allows customers to pay for their Amazon orders in person, that too with cash at a Western Union agent location. After the payment is received through Amazon PayCode, the online marketplace ships the customer’s order to the specified address during checkout.
This was announced last month, where it was described as (Amazon PayCode) a joint creation of Amazon and Western Union. This feature comes as an advanced payment option which has been designed to allow international customers purchase their favorite products from Amazon.com and pay in person, in their local currency, with the help of an eligible Western Union agent who would be available in their locality. With this step, Amazon plans to expand its reach to its global customers and give them access to a variety of products which are yet to be available locally in their markets. It was also spotted that Amazon PayCode was used as a mode of payment method for many products listed on Amazon.com from India.
A wide variety of products listed on Amazon.com already show Amazon PayCode as a payment option. If a customer wishes to purchase products which have the option of being paid using Amazon PayCode, Amazon PayCode can be selected as the payment option during checkout. The online marketplace also requests other additional information which will be used for processing your payment at a Western Union agent location. After the order is complete, the customer will be provided with a code and a set of instructions to make the payment at a participating Western Union agent location.
The Western Union agent in the customer’s location asks for the code and will also require the customer’s photo ID to enable the payment of the Amazon order. The photo ID must match the information the customer provided during the checkout on Amazon.com. Once the payment is obtained from the agent, a payment confirmation email will be sent to the customer from Amazon which will be followed by a shipment notification when the order is shipped.
Customers would be provided with a 48-hour window to pay for their orders through the Amazon PayCode option. If the payment doesn’t happen within the given window, the order will be canceled.
The FAQ page specifically mentions that products must be eligible for export, and the customer must be shopping from a supported country in order to pay using Amazon PayCode. The new payment method will not be shown if the order value exceeds the maximum value allowed for use with Amazon PayCode.
In case of returns, a request can be generated to initiate a return by visiting the My Orders section on Amazon.com website. A refund code will be issued to the customer once the returned item is received, and then the customer could visit a Western Union agent location, show the code along with the photo ID and collect the refund. The online marketplace will automatically transfer the refund to the customer’s Amazon Gift Card balance if it hasn’t been collected within six months.
