Essential Phone was launched last year with Nougat out of the box, with the promised update to Android Oreo, as said company kept their words. The Android 8.1 beta is rolling out to the Essential Phone in beta version. While everyone is waiting for stable Android 8.0 Oreo update, the company decided to skip the Android 8.0 Oreo, move ahead to Android 8.1 Oreo.
As this is the first beta version there are few system-level changes and fixes.
We just started rolling out Oreo Beta 8.1 through OTA. This update includes February security patches, dynamic calendar and clock icons, a slow-scrolling jitter fix (beta), and more. ???? #EssentialPhone

New Features
- Smart Text Selection
- Faster Startup and App Sign-in
- Google Play Protect security scans
- Cheese on the Cheeseburger Emoji fixed
Essential Products Beta Features Include
- Google Security Patches 02-2018
- Dynamic Calendar and Clock Icons
- Slow Scrolling Jitter Fix (Beta)
The above features are actually from Android 8.0, you might have already seen in the 8.0 beta, but scrolling jitter fix is we all waiting for. Though the Essential phone has trending hardware features, it does not perform like what it should be.
The Essential company also rolled out Google February security patches along with Android 8.1 Oreo, this makes Essential as one of the first companies after Google. If you own Essential phone go ahead and download the update and experience the Android 8.1 Oreo.
This update is rolling out via OTA to devices on 8.0 beta. You can download the 8.1 build from developer site here.
