Mi Box S now started to receive an Android 9 Pie Beta 2 update. To recall, the first OTA update of Android 9 on Mi Box S was released back in November 2019. The update was very buggy, and Xiaomi also failed in releasing a bug-free stable Android 9 update to the device, which made some of the devices unusable.
For those who are unhappy with the Android 9 Pie update, the company provided an option to roll back their Android TV box to the earlier and bug-free Oreo version.
Xiaomi wanted to give it another try and started rolling out another beta update for the device. Early this month, Mi Box S received OTA 2 beta 1 update that is 655MB in size and came with a build number R2582.
Mi Box S Android 9 Update Changelog
The beta 1 update has fixed the following issues in the device
- Chromecast not working
- Special H264 decode error
- HULU playback freeze
- BT audio is not in sync with the video
- Pop sound when STB in standby mode
- HDMI compatibility
- Gboard not working when connecting an external Keyboard
Now, the devices which are running on the first beta update are able to receive a second Android 9 beta update. The size of the beta 2 update is the same as that of the earlier update, i.e., 655 MB. But the build number is different. Mi Box S is receiving the Android 9 Pie-based OTA 2 beta 2 updates with build number R2596.
The beta 2 update of the device is said to fix the following bugs
- Support more WiFi channel in a special area
- The system is not stable after back from standby mode
As we all know that this Android TV Box is receiving the update via OTA, so it takes some time for all the devices to receive the update. If you do not want to wait till your device gets the update, you can also download this latest update from the download links provided below.
