Facebook is introducing a new safety feature called Lock Profile for its users in India. The new Lock Profile feature is the successor of the profile guard feature, which was launched three years ago. This feature will enable users to protect their profile information from being seen by anyone who is not on their friend list.
The social media giant said that this feature is designed for the people in India, especially women who are looking for more control over their personal information.
What is Facebook Lock Profile Feature & What Does It Do?
Lock Profile is a privacy guard feature that will enable users to protect their profile information from people who are not their friends.
This feature acts like an extra layer of security to Facebook profiles. When you enable this feature on your profile, your non-friends cannot download, share, or zoom-in your profile picture. This feature will also apply to the cover photo. In addition, when the Lock Profile is on, your existing and new posts cannot be seen by the non-friends.
Though Facebook is already offering similar kinds of security features, this feature is easy to opt for those who are not aware of the other privacy options.
As soon as a user enable the Lock Profile feature on Facebook, all his old posts will be visible only to his friends. Also, a blue badge would be added to the profile to remind you that your profile is locked. However, it is not clear that when this feature is enabled, the non-friends will be able to message you or not.
Where To Enable Lock Profile feature On Facebook?
As of now, the Facebook Lock Profile feature is not available to all the users of India since the feature is slowly rolling out.
To enable this feature, click on the More option under your Facebook name. If you can see a Lock Profile option, it means the feature is available, and you can select Lock Profile and then click on Lock your profile to confirm enabling the feature.
Facebook India public policy director, Ankhi Das, said in a statement, “We are committed to providing a safer platform for people to express themselves. We are profoundly aware of the concerns of the people in India, particularly women, have about protecting their online profiles. Today, we are announcing a new feature, that in one easy step, will give people a lot more control, assure their privacy, and keep them safe and secure online.”
