MediaTek has declared a new 5G SoC variant, the MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G SoC. This new variant is going to target the Mid-range smartphones.
The name of the variant clearly implies that it would be placed below the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G SoC, which is targeting high-end smartphones.
The Taiwanese chipmaker has announced that it is making way for the mid-range phones through its Dimensity 800 5G in the second quarter of 2020.
However, there is no information about which brand phone would employ this latest offering from MediaTek. The company further has not disclosed any technical details about the Dimensity 800 5G SoC yet.
According to the reports on iTHome, the Dimensity 800 SoC will be officially launched in the first quarter of 2020. The phones employing it will hit the market in the second quarter. Details like the transistor or die size, clock speed, core architecture, 5G modem, and GPU are yet under the covers. However, more information will most likely be unveiled in the first quarter next year when MediaTek officially launches the Dimensity 800 SoC for the global market.
According to a report from DigiTimes, the Dimensity 800 5G SoC will be displayed at the January CES 2020.
The MediaTek Dimensity 800 SoC is inclined to employ Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC that is also a 5G-ready SoC targeting mid-range smartphones.
On Weibo, as per a tipster, Digital Chat Station, the MediaTek Dimensity 800 SoC will claim to carry the model number MT6873. Now. It is not the first time the MediaTek MT6873 SoC is rumored.
The details regarding a new mid-range 5G SoC from MediaTek carrying the model number MT6873 surfaced last month. It is expected to employ the in-house Helio M70 5G modem and will have two Cortex A76 cores for performing the heavy-lifting, while the balance six will be Cortex-A50 series cores. The chips were rumored to enter mass production in the second quarter of 2020.
