OnePlus 5, 5T Android 10 Update Seems Distant, February 2020 Security Patch Released For Chinese Variants

OnePlus, in May 2019 itself has confirmed that it will release Android 10 update to both OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T as a third major OS update.

The owners of these two devices felt it as good news since these would be the second pair of devices to receive three upgrades of OS.

At that time, the company, while announcing the update to the phones, clearly mentioned that there are no ATAs for the release date of the Android 10 update.

In October, again, OnePlus made an official statement that Android 10 will be available for OnePlus 5, 5T.

As per the roadmap released by the company, the device will receive the OS in the second quarter of 2020.

It means that the company is working on the firmware update for both the devices. However, the exact release date of the stable update is not yet known.

Now, OnePlus is no longer pushing the monthly updates to these two smartphones, and now they will receive only the quarterly updates.

The users in China have received the February security patch on their units.

Indeed, the Chinese variants of OnePlus devices receive the updates ahead of their global devices. If all the models based on HydrogenOS are getting February security patches, it is safe to argue that the OnePlus 5 and 5T Android 10 update rollout seems to be distant.

Also, the February security patches, the new HydrogenOS update based on Android Pie, improves the stability of the system and fixes known issues. However, OnePlus does not go into specifics of this said issue.

As said earlier, the Chinese variants are leading in terms of software updates, which means the same February security patches should soon push to the global OxygenOS units.
