The coronavirus pandemic made the video calls popular and important. The services such as Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp, and Telegram are gaining so much attention. Telegram thinks like it can be good in comparison to others for security. The messaging app announced that it would provide secure group video calls in this year.
Telegram wrote in a blog post that video calls in 2020 are more like messaging in 2013. Right now, some apps are either secure or usable, but not both. They will try to fix both in their app. The company claimed that a minimum of 1.5 million new users are signing up for Telegram daily, which makes it the most downloaded social media application in over 20 countries.
Telegram didn’t reveal so many details about the feature, but it looks like it will target the Zoom, which is facing issues to fix the many privacy issues. Now, Zoom made a security council and promised the users to upgrades. But, the competitors will take advantage of this situation.
Telegram is one of the most trusted messaging apps. It makes the users retroactively delete their messages. During the Hong Kong protests, the app added a feature to protect the users’ identities. Now, it has 400 million monthly users, which rises from 300 million a year ago. In comparison to Zoom, the app just reached 300 million daily users; it’s a small thing.
Recently, WhatsApp increased the number of participants on video calls can now support from four to eight. Also, the Google Duo increased the group participants up to 12, and the company is also working on adding the invite links for group video and audio calls.
