Last month, OnePlus launched the most awaited OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Now, unofficial TWRP for OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 devices is available. To recall, recently the company released kernel source code for both the devices, which would help the third-party developers to create custom ROM.
Though OnePlus devices are costly, they are much in demand because of the freedom that OxygenOS provide. Furthermore, the company has also released an OxygenOS update recently bringing April 2020 security patch.
The unofficial TWRP for OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 is developed by a senior member of XDA, mauronofrio. With this TWRP, you can now flash custom kernels and Magisk as well, effortlessly on your devices. However, you cannot modify the mount partitions such as vendor, system, product, etc. It is because of the Android 10 super partition’s introduction, where you can find multiple dynamically resizable partitions.
We already know that in the Android 10 update, Google made several changes to the AOSP recovery implementation. The TWRP team had to restructure its custom recovery. Several internal components had to be rewritten for the supported devices such as OnePlus 8, 8 Pro. Since the restructuring has not yet been completed, it may take some time to get a fully working unofficial TWRP for OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8.
According to the developer, as of now, permanent flashing of the recovery image should be avoided. It is better to opt for temporary booting using Fastboot interface: fastboot boot twrpname.img. Besides TWRP bugs, the data decryption is also not working on the build. Also, users are advised to use “system_image” and “vendor_image” entries instead of “system” and “vendor” while performing a backup.
