A year after testing WhatsApp Dark mode in beta version now, it is finally official for both Android and iPhone devices. In the new version, the Facebook-owned company designs a dark grey background with an off-white color element to remove the glow and also improves the contrast and readability. Users on Android 10 and iOS 13 will be able to experience WhatsApp Dark mode by enabling the dark mode from the system settings of their devices. Users who are having older versions of Android and iOS they have to do it manually. Users can enable the dark mode by going into the theme preferences of the WhatsApp app.
The WhatsApp dark mode aims to minimize eye fatigue and use colors that are close to the system defaults on iPhone and Android, respectively. Instead of using simple, pure black and white color tones, users can use a relaxing color.
WhatsApp was working on the Dark mode from some time. Developers were working on this feature from last year, March. The months before the official debut of iOS 13, which brings a system-wide dark mode to iPhone and iPod touch models. Recently WhatsApp updated its profile photos on every social media channel to tease the arrival of the highly predictable change.
A blog post said that the WhatsApp team focussed on the readability of content and information hierarchy during working on the new update. The main objective of the company is that they want their Watsapp dark mode should help users to focus their attention on each screen on WhatsApp while using the Dark mode. And it is gained by using color and other design elements in line with the Dark mode.
The WhatsApp team has made a video named Hello Darkness. Through this, users will get a glimpse of how the Dark mode works and how to use it in their daily schedule. It has a soundtrack by the previously-unreleased version of The Sound of Silence by an American musician Paul Simon.
WhatsApp users who are having Android 10 and iOS 13 will be able to get the new dark mode by moving to the system-wide dark mode in the device settings. Users who are having Android 9 Pie and earlier versions, they can enable it by going into WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Theme > Dark. But, the iPhone users who are still on an iOS version before iOS 13 they will not get the Watsapp Dark mode.
But, the company said that the dark mode on WhatsApp is rolling out to all the eligible users in the coming days by the latest version of WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is not the first app to bring a dark mode for users. Apps such as Twitter, Gmail, and Facebook’s Instagram also have a similar mode.
The Dark mode on WhatsApp will increase the usage of the app that has more than two billion users worldwide. The new mode will make the users use WhatsApp more than earlier. Now, users will use Watsapp in bed or sitting in a room that has dim lights. This is in contrast to the digital detox initiatives that tech companies have started. These companies are using screen timer for users and help them improve their social interaction in the physical world.
