During the APK teardown, XDA developers have spotted new strings of code in the Pixel Launcher from Android 11, which is pointing towards an upcoming feature called “Hotseat.”
The present version of the Pixel Launcher suggests the apps that are based on your recent activities. This upcoming feature, Hotseat builds upon the same behavior and shows suggested apps in place of the dock on the home screen. These recommended apps are selected based on your usage, and they replace the bottom row of apps on the home screen.
According to the code provided below, the users will be given an option to opt-in or opt-out for this new feature. You can pin the apps to the Hotseat. When you start setting up this feature, you can see a couple of prompts that explain how it works and also includes instructions to pin the apps to Hotseat, remove apps manually, hide suggested apps, etc.
The code also references a pin prediction feature, which will most likely, suggest apps that you should pin to the Hotseat based on your usage.
