How To Download & Install MIUI 11 Update Manually

Xiaomi started rolling out MIUI 11 back in October 2019. From then, most of the regions and devices received the update. In case you did not receive the OTA update by the company, here is how you can download the MIUI 11 update manually on your device.

What is MIUI 11?

MIUI is an operating system based on Android that is built for Xiaomi’s Redmi, Mi, and Poco brand phones, and MIUI 11 is its latest iteration. Though MIUI is made on the Android platform, the default user interface is mostly different from stock UI. Now in its eleventh edition, Xiaomi offers even more tweaks and features like never before to personalize the software on your phone.

Features Of MIUI 11:

On updating to MIUI 11, users of Xiaomi phones can get system-wide dark mode, a new minimalistic design, Dynamic Clock, an Always-on display, and personalized texts on the lock screen and breathing notifications. There are a number of wallpapers set inside the Wallpaper Carousel and Themes app, the ability to set videos as wallpapers, dynamic wallpapers, and new icons.

Xiaomi is also offering a new Docs app for quickly finding and further editing documents, a floating calculator for multitasking, and a To-Do app with voice controls.

Other new features include Steps, Quick Replies in landscape mode, and Women’s Health app. Finally, there is a new Mint Keyboard that supports English plus 25 more Indic languages.

How To Install MIUI 11 Using Recovery ROM?

If you download a Recovery ROM from the above-provided links, then follow the below instructions to install MIUI 11 manually on your Xiaomi smartphone. Make sure that you back up all the data and files before flashing the update since it may sometimes erase all your data.

Both the OTA and Recovery ROM can be flashed by the steps given below:

  1. Go to Settings > About phone > System update.

  2. On tapping the three dots button, it shows the option “Choose update package.”. Click on that and further choose the downloaded ROM from your SD card or internal storage.

  3. In case you don’t find the choose update package option, then tap on the logo of MIUI several times, then you get prompt “additional update settings are now available.”
  4. Now you see the option and then select the MIUI 11 update file.
  5. That’s all. The system will start decrypting the file and install it automatically. Wait until it finishes the process, which may take about 10 to 30 minutes.

How To Install MIUI 11 Using Fastboot ROM: 

To get MIUI 11 using fastboot ROM, you need to use a PC or laptop. Also, make sure that you unlock the bootloader of your Xiaomi phone.

  1. Download MI Flash Tool on to your PC.
  2. Enable USB Debugging by directing over to Settings > Additional Settings > Developer Options.
  3. Now, switch off your device and enter fastboot mode by pressing volume down and power buttons at once.
  4. Connect your device with fastboot mode to the PC using a USB cable.
  5. Extract the MI Flash Tool and install the MiFlash.exe file.
  6. Then extract the Fastboot ROM (.tgz) file on to PC and copy the path of this folder.
  7.  Now paste the folder path in the address bar of the Mi Flash Tool application, which you have just opened.
  8. Further, click on the yellow circled-out button to refresh, and MiFlash will recognize your device automatically.
  9. Now, tap on the red circled-out button to flash the ROM file to your device.
  10. Wait till the update flashed onto your Xiaomi phone.
  11. Lastly, when the update finishes, the progress bar inside MiFlash will turn entirely into the green.

And now, your device will automatically boot to MIUI 11.
